Skip the massive city crowds. If you want a quieter, greener, and more natural environment to see pandas, Panda Valley is our top recommendation. Located about an hour’s drive from downtown Chengdu, it feels less like a zoo and more like a mountain forest. After spending the morning with the pandas, we’ll head to the 2,000-year-old Dujiangyan Irrigation System. We’ll keep the history simple and interesting, take a relaxing walk by the river, and sit down for an authentic, reasonably priced countryside lunch that you won't find in typical tourist guides.

Itinerary

08:00 AM - Easy Morning Pick-up Your English-speaking guide will meet you in your hotel lobby. We’ll hop into our comfortable sedan and take the highway straight to Dujiangyan. You can catch some extra sleep or chat with us about local Chengdu life along the way.

09:30 AM - Panda Valley Exploration We arrive at the valley when the air is fresh and the pandas are most active. We’ll walk along the shaded bamboo trails to see the giant pandas eating and playing. Then, we’ll enter the special red panda zone—keep your camera ready, as they often walk right past your feet!

12:30 PM - Authentic Countryside Lunch No overpriced tourist traps here. We’ll take you to a local restaurant near the mountains. We highly recommend trying the local Dujiangyan specialties, but we’ll order based entirely on your spice tolerance and preferences.

02:00 PM - Dujiangyan Irrigation System We’ll spend the afternoon walking through this massive, ancient water project. You’ll cross the famous swinging suspension bridge, see the beautiful Taoist temples built into the mountain, and learn how the locals tamed the river thousands of years ago without building a dam.

04:30 PM - Relaxing Drive Back With full stomachs and great photos, we’ll head back to Chengdu. We can drop you off at your hotel, or anywhere in the city center if you want to grab dinner on your own.
