We take you to the neighborhood wet market where our host shops every morning, then bring you back to their kitchen to cook a full Sichuan lunch together — from scratch. No performance, no shortcuts. 09:30 · Meet at the Local Wet Market Your guide and host meet you at a traditional neighborhood market — the kind tourists never find on their own. This is where Chengdu families shop every day.
10:00 · Market Tour & Ingredient Shopping Walk the stalls with your host. Learn to identify Sichuan's essential ingredients: hand-harvested peppercorns, aged Pixian doubanjiang (fermented chili bean paste), fresh-cut noodles, and seasonal vegetables. Your host selects everything for today's lunch — and explains exactly why.
11:00 · Arrive at the Private Kitchen A short walk or ride to your host's home. Leave your shoes at the door. This is where the real cooking begins.
11:15 · Cook Together Roll up your sleeves. Under your host's guidance, prepare 3–4 classic Sichuan dishes — think Mapo Tofu, Twice-Cooked Pork, or a cold-tossed dish with house chili oil. Techniques explained in English throughout. No experience needed.
12:00 · Sit Down & Eat Everything you made, served at the family table. Your host eats with you. This is the part guests talk about for years.
13:30 · End of Experience Your guide sees you off. English recipe cards for every dish you cooked are yours to take home.
