If you want to see pandas exactly as they live in the wild, this is the place. Located at an altitude of 1,700 meters in the Wolong Nature Reserve, the Shenshuping Base is surrounded by lush forests and snow-capped peaks. Because it takes about two hours to drive here from Chengdu, it automatically filters out the massive tourist crowds.

The cooler mountain climate means the pandas here are much more active and playful throughout the entire day, not just in the morning. You don't need a heavy, professional DSLR camera to get great photos here; the natural lighting and the lack of glass reflections mean your smartphone is all you need to capture stunning shots against the alpine background. We will handle the mountain driving in our quiet, standard sedan, ensuring you have a smooth and completely relaxing road trip through some of Sichuan’s most beautiful valleys.

Itinerary

08:00 AM - Scenic Morning Drive Your guide will pick you up from your hotel. We’ll leave the city behind and drive onto the mountain highway leading into the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture. It’s a 2-hour drive, but the views of the winding river and steep green mountains make it fly by.

10:00 AM - Wolong Panda Base Exploration We arrive at the sanctuary. The air here is incredibly fresh. We’ll take our time walking along the spacious wooden paths. Without the pressure of crowds pushing behind you, you can stand as long as you want watching the pandas chew bamboo or sleep in the high branches.

12:30 PM - Local Mountain Lunch For lunch, we’ll stop at a local restaurant near the reserve. The food here is different from Chengdu city—expect fresh mountain vegetables, wild mushrooms, and traditional Qiang-style cured meats. It’s authentic, hearty, and perfectly hits the spot after a morning walk.

02:00 PM - The Panda Kindergarten We’ll head back to the base to focus on the cub enclosures. The young pandas are usually wrestling, tumbling down hills, and driving their mothers crazy. It’s the most entertaining part of the sanctuary.

03:30 PM - Relaxing Drive Back After a full day of nature and wildlife, you can recline your seat and take a comfortable nap as we drive back down the mountain. We will drop you off at your hotel in Chengdu around 5:30 PM.
